Obstruction of bile and urinary tracts

Biliary stent or catheter placement

In the case of malignant bile ducts, surgical procedures are considered risky for the patient in some cases. In these cases, invasive radiological treatment methods are considered less traumatic and the least risky method. Sometimes, as an invasive radiological method, percutaneous drainage and stents are inserted into the bile ducts.

Biliary drainage is a treatment method that is done in cases where the biliary tract is blocked. During the procedure, it is inserted into the bile ducts with a thin needle. A plastic catheter or flat metal stent can then be placed over the blocked bile ducts. The plastic catheter can always be removed. Stents are permanent.

Percutaneous biliary (bile duct) drainage:

  • Surgery is performed without surgery or endoscopy
  • Non-surgical biliary drainage is performed using ultrasound or fluoroscopy images from the middle or right side of the abdomen.
  • The procedure is less traumatic and no scar remains after the operation
  • After percutaneous bile duct drainage, the patient is discharged home without hospitalization.

Nephrostomy

Due to obstruction of the urinary tract for any reason or disruption of the normal functioning of the urinary tract, hydronephrosis of the kidneys occurs, in which case there is a need for nephrostomy to protect the kidneys.

Nephrostomy-is a procedure performed to remove urine from the kidney using a catheter. This procedure is done to reduce pressure on the kidneys during hydronephrosis. It is performed with local anesthesia without surgery, and the procedure takes about 15-20 minutes, after the procedure, the patient can go home.
